Saratoga County Windows and Doors
Saratoga County covers the widest range of construction dates of any county we serve, from 1790s Waterford village to 2010s subdivisions built around the GlobalFoundries campus.
Sundog serves 10 communities in Saratoga County from our Troy office: Saratoga Springs, Clifton Park, Ballston Spa, Malta, Halfmoon, Waterford, Mechanicville, Wilton, Stillwater, Burnt Hills and Ballston Lake. Saratoga County municipalities generally follow the same pattern: no permit for same-size replacement, permit required for new or enlarged openings and egress windows. Saratoga Springs has an active design review process for exterior work on contributing properties in reviewed areas.
The housing stock
Saratoga Springs is defined by its Victorian resort era, roughly 1870 to 1910, with large frame houses, elaborate exterior trim and active design review on contributing properties. The trim is the part people underestimate: deep profiled casings on a hundred-and-forty-year-old house frequently do not survive removal, and that has to be planned for rather than discovered.
Suburban and newer construction
Clifton Park is the suburban boom town, built out in waves from the mid 1970s through the 2000s. Entire subdivisions went up within a two or three year window with the same builder and the same window package, which means when one house on a cul-de-sac fogs up, the neighbors are usually six months behind.
Rural, historic and everything else
Malta and the surrounding corridor have grown rapidly since the GlobalFoundries campus opened, and much of that housing is from the 2000s with builder-grade glass packages now failing at twelve to eighteen years, often still within a manufacturer seal warranty worth checking. Waterford, at the far south of the county, has housing predating almost everything else in the region.
Permits and review in Saratoga County
Saratoga County municipalities generally follow the same pattern: no permit for same-size replacement, permit required for new or enlarged openings and egress windows. Saratoga Springs has an active design review process for exterior work on contributing properties in reviewed areas.
Requirements are set locally, so confirm with your own municipality before ordering anything. We raise this during every estimate, because a custom window that cannot be installed because approval was never obtained is an expensive lesson.

Frequently asked questions
Do you charge more to work in Saratoga County?
No. Pricing is identical across our whole service area. What changes with distance from our Troy office is scheduling: the closest towns can be booked quickly and support small single-window jobs, while the outer edges we prefer to batch with other work in that region.
Do I need a permit for window replacement in Saratoga County?
Saratoga County municipalities generally follow the same pattern: no permit for same-size replacement, permit required for new or enlarged openings and egress windows. Saratoga Springs has an active design review process for exterior work on contributing properties in reviewed areas.
How many Saratoga County towns do you serve?
We serve 10 communities in Saratoga County: Saratoga Springs, Clifton Park, Ballston Spa, Malta, Halfmoon, Waterford, Mechanicville, Wilton, Stillwater, Burnt Hills and Ballston Lake. If your town is not listed, call anyway. That list reflects where we work most often, not a boundary.
Can you handle commercial work in this county?
Yes. Commercial window replacement, storefront glass and commercial entrance doors are available throughout the four counties. Commercial projects always begin with a site walk, because access and scheduling variables are too large for a phone quote to be meaningful.
How quickly can you come out for an estimate?
For towns closest to Troy, usually within a few days. For outer areas we batch scheduling, so allow a week or two. Urgent situations such as broken glass we handle immediately regardless of location, because securing the opening cannot wait.
