What to expect when you call

• We will ask what the problem is, not what product you want. A draft, a fogged pane and a sash that will not stay up are three different jobs.
• If it sounds like a repair, we will say so on the phone before anyone drives out.
• The in-home measure takes about an hour for a typical house and costs nothing.
• We probe the sill and header for rot at each opening and tell you what we find.
• The written quote arrives with a line per opening, itemized, and it is yours to keep and compare.
• We will tell you the lead time honestly. Custom units run three to six weeks depending on season.

What to have ready

None of this is required, but it speeds things up considerably.

• A rough count of how many windows or doors you are thinking about.
• Whether the house is in a historic district, if you know.
• Any manufacturer name etched in a corner of the glass, which tells us whether a warranty claim is possible.
• Photos of anything obviously failed, such as fog between panes or rot at a sill.
• Whether you are thinking whole house or phasing it across a couple of years.
• Your rough budget range, which lets us quote products that are actually relevant.

Where we come out to

Sundog covers the four-county Capital Region core from our Troy office. The towns closest to us can usually be scheduled within a few days and support small single-window jobs. The outer edges of the range we prefer to batch with other work in that area, which does not change your price, only how quickly we can get there.

What we do not do

Worth saying plainly so nobody wastes a phone call. We install, replace and repair windows, exterior doors and glass. We are not a general remodeler and we do not take on the following.

• Auto glass and windshields. If you searched glass repair and landed here, we are the wrong company and any auto glass shop is the right one.
• Garage doors and openers, which is a separate trade with its own hardware and safety requirements.
• Roofing, siding and gutters as standalone projects, though we tie into siding and trim as part of a window or door installation.
• Interior doors as a standalone job, though we handle them alongside exterior work on the same project.
• Skylights, which involve roof penetration and are better handled by a roofer.
• Shower and bath enclosure glass.
