We will tell you when you do not need new windows
Most window companies in this region only sell replacement, which means every problem looks like a replacement. We do repair, glass, sash kits, storms and full replacement, so we have no reason to steer you toward the biggest number.
A sash that will not stay up is usually a balance and an hour of labor. Fog between the panes is a glass unit, not a window. A draft at the trim is a perimeter that was never insulated. Those are real fixes and they cost a fraction of what a replacement does. When replacement genuinely is the answer, we will show you why.
Our office is in Troy, which means we know what a Central Troy Historic District review actually asks for, what an Albany masonry opening needs, and why the windows in a Clifton Park subdivision all fogged up the same year.

Frequently asked questions
How much does window replacement cost in the Capital Region?
Expect $450 to $1,400 per window installed, with most whole-house projects landing between $8,000 and $26,000. Frame material, glass package, whether the opening needs repair, and insert versus full-frame are the four things that move the number.
Do you repair windows or only replace them?
Both, and that is deliberate. We do balance and hardware repairs, glass unit replacement, sash kits, storm windows and full replacement. Because we do all of it, we have no reason to steer you toward the biggest job. We quote repair and replacement side by side when it is a close call.
Can you replace windows in the winter?
Yes, and winter is often the best time. Each opening is out and back in within thirty to ninety minutes and only one opening is ever open at a time, so the house stays closed and heated. Lead times are shorter in January than in May. The genuine limit is extreme cold combined with wind, where sealants will not cure.
Do I need a permit to replace my windows?
Not for a same-size replacement in most Capital Region municipalities. You do need one for a new or enlarged opening, or for an egress window. If your home is in a historic district in Albany, Troy, Schenectady or Saratoga Springs, exterior work may need separate review even at the same size.
What areas do you serve?
The four-county Capital Region core: Albany, Rensselaer, Schenectady and Saratoga counties. That covers Albany, Troy, Schenectady, Saratoga Springs, Clifton Park, Colonie, Niskayuna, Bethlehem and the surrounding towns and villages.
Are you insured?
Yes. Sundog Window and Door Installation operates as Mastaba Homes LLC and is fully insured for both residential and commercial work. We can send you a current certificate of insurance before the job starts, and you should ask any contractor for one.
